The former head of a local branch of opposition leader Aleksei Navalny's team has been sentenced to nine years in prison for participating in an "extremist community," Navalny's team said on July 24. Ostanin, 46, was arrested in December 2021 and charged with organizing an extremist community and propagating the activities of a noncommercial organization that encroaches on citizens' privacy and rights.
