North Korean Oil Minister Kim Hui Yong has met with Gazprom chief Aleksei Miller to discuss construction of a natural-gas pipeline along the Korean Peninsula.

A Gazprom statement said the "two sides agreed to form a working group for implementation of the project."

Russia has been pushing for construction of the pipeline to South Korea through North Korea.

Seoul is anxious to purchase Russian gas but without the North's participation the only possible pipeline routes lie along the bottom of the Yellow Sea or the Sea of Japan, projects both Seoul and Gazprom have called expensive.
