Taliban Attacks In Badakhshan Kill 16 Police

Updated

Afghan officials say Taliban attacks on police checkpoints in a remote northwestern province have killed at least 16 police officers.

Lawmaker Nilofer Ibrahimi said on May 4 that the attacks happened the previous night in Badakhshan Province.

Ibrahimi said 13 of the victims were members of border police units while the three others were public protection officers.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the coordinated attack on May 3.

Ibrahimi says that seven other police officers are still missing following the attacks.

The attack comes nearly a month after the Taliban killed nearly 30 Afghan Army soldiers at a remote outpost in Jurm district of the same province.

Earlier on May 4, one civilian was killed and 15 were wounded when a suicide bomber targeted a bus carrying staff members of the attorney general's office in Kabul.
