Suspected Afghan Policeman Kills Six Colleagues

A suspected Afghan policeman drugged then shot dead six of his colleagues in southern Uruzgan Province in the latest so-called insider attack.

A spokesman for the Uruzgan police, Doost Muhammad Nayab, said the attack happened in the provincial capital, Tirin Kot, late on August 5.

Nayab said after killing the six policemen, the attacker took their weapons and fled in a police car. Nayab said the suspect is believed to have had connections with the Taliban.

The attack happened the same day a U.S. general was killed and 15 coalition soldiers were wounded in an insider attack at a military training base west of Kabul.

Germany said a German general was also wounded in that attack.

The attacks come as foreign forces are in the process of greatly reducing their numbers in Afghanistan by the end of this year.
