NATO Chief Urges World Not To Forget Afghanistan


NATO Secretary-General Jaap De Hoop Scheffer (file photo) (AFP) July 20, 2006 – The head of NATO today urged the international community not to neglect Afghanistan as its focus shifts to the conflicts in the Middle East and Iraq.


Speaking in Kabul today, Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer called on donors to keep Afghanistan as a top priority.


He reiterated NATO'S commitment to fight Taliban insurgents.


De Hoop Scheffer arrived in Kabul on July 19 to review the 26-nation alliance's expansion into volatile southern regions.
