German Defense Minister Visits Afghanistan


Defense Minister Jung (center) speaking with a German officer in Afghanistan today (epa) July 18, 2006 -- German Defense Minister Franz Josef Jung arrived in Mazar-i-Sharif today to meet the German military contingent that took command of a NATO-led military force in northern Afghanistan last month.


German military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Klaus Geier says Jung wants to assess Germany's command of the International Security Assistance Force and of German-run provincial reconstruction teams.
