Officials say the body of Boston Marathon bombings suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev has been claimed.
A spokesman for the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety said a funeral home retained by Tsarnaev's family picked up the 26-year-old's remains on May 2 in Boston.
Medical examiners determined Tsarnaev's official cause of death earlier this week, but officials said it wouldn't become public until his remains were released.
Tsarnaev died after a shootout with police on April 19, four days after the twin marathon bombings killed three people and wounded 264 others.
Tsarnaev’s younger brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, was captured by authorities nearly 24 hours later. He could face the death penalty if convicted in a U.S. court of charges in connection with the bombings.
Their mother and father say the allegations against the ethnic Chechen brothers are lies.
