Noted Turkmen physician Khursanai Ismatullaeva, who was fired from a hospital in 2017 and handed a nine-year prison term on corruption charges in November 2021 after the case of her dismissal following sick leave was discussed in the European Parliament, has been released from prison. Sources close to the government said on January 3 that Ismatullaeva was released last month as part of a mass amnesty.
