Russian parliament's Federation Council on July 28 approved a bill raising the maximum age for mandatory one-year military service for men to 30 from 27. Lawmakers have said the legislation was intended as a plan for "a big war" and "general mobilization." After the bill is signed into law by President Vladimir Putin, Russian men between 18 and 30 years of age will be required to put in one year of mandatory military service as of January 1, 2024.
