A Pakistani antiterrorism court today issued warrants for the arrest of two police officers on charges related to the 2007 assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

The two officers, Saud Aziz, former police chief of the city of Rawalpindi -- where the attack took place -- and a deputy, Khurram Shahzad, are charged with failing to provide enough security and for clearing the scene before evidence could be collected.

The government's initial investigation blamed individuals tied to the Pakistani Taliban and Al-Qaeda for the gun and suicide bomb attack that killed Bhutto.

In April, a United Nations report said any honest investigation should include members of Pakistan's military and security establishment and criticized authorities for having "severely hampered" investigative efforts.
