An Iranian dissident leader has called on the United Nations to protect her group's Iraqi base after an attack by Iraqi security forces.

Maryam Rajavi of the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization, (MKO, aka People's Mujahedin of Iran) told followers at a rally in France that having UN monitors at Camp Ashraf in Iraq was the best way to protect the people living there.

The camp is located about 65 kilometers north of Baghdad.

The United States, Iraq, and Iran consider the MKO a terrorist group.

An Iraqi Army attack on the camp in April killed up to 35 people and injured hundreds.
