IAEA: Iran Complying With Nuclear Deal

The UN's nuclear watchdog says in a new quarterly report that Iran is complying with last year's nuclear deal with six world powers.

The Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said May 23 that Iran has cut its stockpile of higher enriched uranium by more than 80 percent since January -- to about a fifth of what would be needed for a nuclear weapon.

The IAEA also said Iran has cooperated for the first time on a probe into its suspected past bomb research program.

It said Iran has shown the agency information that a detonator was tested for civilian application.

However, the IAEA said it still remains concerned about possible military dimensions of Iran's nuclear program.

The agency also said it has observed construction activity at Iran's Parchin site and reiterated its request for access.

Based on reporting by Reuters and AFP

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
