UN Rapporteur, Barred By Taliban, Arrives In Qatar To Meet Afghan Groups

Richard Bennett, the UN's special rapporteur on human rights in Afghanistan, says he has arrived in Qatar to meet with "diverse groups" of Afghan men and women, along with government representatives, on the situation in Afghanistan. The country's de facto Taliban rulers barred Bennett from entering Afghanistan late last month, accusing him of "spreading propaganda." Since being appointed to the UN post in May 2022, Bennett has made several trips to Afghanistan and has accused the Taliban of violating human rights, especially in regard to the rights of girls and women.
