A senior security police officer has been shot dead by unknown gunmen in Russia's Northern Caucasus region of Daghestan.
Police said Gapal Gadzhiyev, head of the North Caucasus's Federal District's Anti-Extremism police department, was killed in his car in the regional capital of Makhachkala.
On September 10 and 11, Russian authorities said several attacks across the North Caucasus left two police officers dead and another five wounded.
The attacks followed the September 9 suicide bombing in North Ossetia, which killed 17 people.
