Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has warned U.S. President Barack Obama that his statements about the Islamic Republic's disputed nuclear program are "disgraceful" and reveal that the U.S. government is "wicked and unreliable."

Khamenei's remarks today came in response to Washington's April 6 announcement that the United States will not attack countries that abide by the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which excludes Iran and North Korea.

Obama has also pushed recently for fresh UN sanctions against Iran. Khamenei said Obama "has implicitly threatened Iranians with nuclear weapons" and the country will work faster to produce centrifuges for its nuclear program.

Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Ministry announced today that the Islamic Republic will file a formal complaint with the United Nations over Washington's nuclear strategy.

Earlier, the state news agency IRNA reported that some 200 Iranian lawmakers had asked the Foreign Ministry to issue a formal complain to the UN for what they termed the "American government's threat to international peace."
