Iran Says Kidnapped Diplomat In Pakistan Freed

Updated

Iran says a diplomat kidnapped in northwestern Pakistan has been freed.

Iran's consul general in the Pakistani city of Peshawar, Abbas Ali Abdullahi, said he had no information about where Heshmatollah Attarzadeh was recovered, but confirmed he had reached Iran.

The confirmation follows an Iranian state television report saying Iranian intelligence agents had freed Attarzadeh from his abductors.

The report said the diplomat was freed "in a complicated intelligence operation," without providing any further details.

Attarzadeh, Iran's commercial attache in Peshawar, was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in November 2008.
