An explosion in Kabul has rocked a district of the capital that is home to government offices and foreign embassies.

Zemeri Bashary, a spokesman for the Afghan Interior Ministry, said the blast occurred near the Afghan Foreign Ministry.

The cause of the explosion has not been confirmed and there are no immediate reports of casualties.

Western news agencies quote security officials as saying privately that the blast may have been caused by explosives being carried by an Afghan Army vehicle.
