RFE/RL’s Current Time TV is looking for a skilled Camera Operator to support studio and field productions in Riga and across the region. This role is central to producing high-quality, fact-based video content for Russian-speaking audiences and directly contributes to RFE/RL’s mission of providing independent journalism where free media is under threat.

  • Film news stories, events, and programs with strong visual storytelling and technical precision.
  • Edit, process, and deliver video from the field quickly to meet tight deadlines.
  • Advise producers and directors on shot composition, lighting, and visual effects to achieve creative goals.
  • Work independently in the field, handling all technical aspects of filming (camera, sound, lighting).
  • Maintain, test, and prepare equipment to ensure reliable performance.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues under pressure to maintain operational continuity.
  • Adapt to irregular hours and be ready to travel internationally on short notice.

What We Are Looking For

  • Specialized education in audiovisual arts or a related field, with training in the operation of television broadcasting equipment.
  • At least 5 years’ professional experience as a camera operator in broadcast television, including live studio production.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to also work independently.
  • Solid problem-solving skills, especially in field environments.
  • Quick learner, able to adapt to new subjects and technologies.
  • Proficiency with broadcast-grade cameras (e.g., XDCAM, AVCHD), lighting, and microphones.
  • Knowledge of video formats, codecs, and industry standards.
  • Physical ability to lift and move equipment up to 25 lbs. (12 kg).
  • Mandatory knowledge of one of the Baltic languages: i.e., Lithuanian, Latvian, or Estonian, and working proficiency in English and Russian.
