RFE/RL’s Current Time is seeking an experienced Journalist to join our dynamic, mission-driven team in Riga, Latvia. In this role, you will create, produce, and deliver high-quality journalism across multiple platforms — TV, online, social media, and audio — with a focus on Russia and the wider region. You will play a key part in shaping stories that matter to our Russian-speaking audience while upholding RFE/RL’s reputation for integrity, independence, and excellence.

Current Time is the leading independent Russian-language television channel, providing factual news, unbiassed reporting, and engaging video content to Russian-speaking audiences. We strive to ensure people have access to accurate information in places where such access may be limited by censorship, and freedom of speech may be under threat.
What You Will Do
- Produce original, compelling content on political, economic, and social issues relevant to Russia, ranging from short dispatches to in-depth features and analyses.
- Report from the field, conduct studio and remote interviews, and deliver live segments.
- Moderate discussions, create multimedia content (text, audio, video, photo), and collaborate with production teams.
- Research, fact-check, and select reliable sources to ensure accuracy and credibility.
- Monitor regional and international developments daily to inform coverage.
- Actively contribute story ideas, program planning, and editorial feedback.
- Ensure adherence to RFE/RL’s editorial standards and take ownership of your work.
- When required, serve as an editor for specific segments or platforms, managing content and contributing to program strategy.
- Explore innovative approaches to storytelling and audience engagement.
- Build and maintain professional networks that strengthen journalistic output and RFE/RL’s reputation.
What We Are Looking For
- Education: Master’s degree in Journalism or a related field (mandatory).
- Experience: 5–8 years as a professional journalist with a strong portfolio.
- Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Russia’s political, social, and economic landscape, as well as regional and international affairs.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong editorial judgment and independence.
- Proven ability to create and adapt content across multiple platforms.
- Skilled at working with multimedia and content management systems.
- Ability to coach junior colleagues and contribute positively to team culture.
- Established network of reliable sources; capable of both beat and general reporting.
- Fluency in Russian (native level) and strong working knowledge of English (oral and written).
- Ability to work with multimedia tools, video/audio equipment, and new digital technologies.
