The threat of war in Ukraine did not deter tens of thousands of Orthodox Jews from traveling to the city of Uman for an annual pilgrimage marking the Jewish New Year.
More than 30,000 Orthodox Jews traveled to the Ukrainian city of Uman to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. The celebrations took place despite warnings from the Ukrainian government that it could not guarantee travelers' safety in the midst of the war with Russia.
Ukrainians welcomed news that the U.S. House of Representatives had passed a long-delayed aid bill critical to Ukraine's defense against Russia’s ongoing invasion. Speaking to RFE/RL on April 21, many Kyiv residents said the $61 billion package could help slow advancing Russian forces.
