Mudslides Kill Three In Tajikistan

Mudslides caused by heavy rains have killed three people in Tajikistan's north.

Officials in Sughd Province told RFE/RL on May 10 that two residents of the village of Revad -- 41-year-old Lola Tuighunova and her 18-year-old son, Ismat Rustamov -- were killed by mudslides on May 9.

Local authorities said the mudslides also killed Toshboi Hujamqulov, a 56-year-old resident of another village, Shurcha.

Tajik authorities said on May 10 that the mudslides have damaged numerous homes, major infrastructure, and municipal buildings in the region.
