The Taliban reopened the Torkham border crossing with Pakistan on February 23 after four days in which thousands of trucks carrying supplies into landlocked Afghanistan remained stuck at the border. The key border crossing was reopened a day after a visit to Kabul by Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif. Both Taliban officials and the Afghan Embassy in Pakistan confirmed that traffic has now resumed. Afghanistan's Taliban rulers closed the crossing on February 19 for what they said was Pakistan's refusal to allow the movement of Afghans for medical purposes without valid travel documents for medical purposes.
