Russia launched a major missile and drone assault on multiple locations across Ukraine, flattening residential buildings in Kyiv, killing at least nine people, and wounding scores of others across the country.

The overnight attack -- one of the largest in months -- came just hours after the White House presented Ukrainian officials with what amounted to an ultimatum about a US proposal to end the 38-month-old Russian invasion of Ukraine.
