Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says Iran's nuclear negotiations with world powers have revealed U.S. "enmity" toward the Islamic republic.

The supreme leader's comments were reported by the Islamic Republic News Agency on January 9, just hours before Iran was due to resume talks with the United States and other powers in Geneva.

Khamenei was quoted as telling a gathering that the nuclear negotiations have shown "the enmity of America against Iran, Iranians, Islam, and Muslims."

He added that Iran decided to negotiate with the United States, which he called "Satan," in order to "deter its evil."

The new Geneva talks are aimed at discussing implementation of the interim nuclear agreement reached in November, under which Iran is to curtail some nuclear activities in return for the easing of some international sanctions.
