At least 10 people, including at least three U.S. soldiers, were reported killed in an attack by a suicide bomber in northern Afghanistan.

The April 4 attack occurred in Maymana, capital of Faryab Province, which has been seen as a relatively peaceful area of Afghanistan.

The suicide bomber was reported to have been riding an explosives-packed motorcycle. The Taliban claimed responsibility.

Reports varied on the number of casualties, but The Associated Press quoted a U.S. defense official as confirming three American troops had been killed in the bombing.

A number of Afghan police were also reported killed.

The attack is reported to have occurred as foreign troops were taking photographs in a park.

Around 100 NATO troops are reported to have been killed so far this year in Afghanistan.

Based on reporting by Reuters, AP, and AFP

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
