ISAF General Says More Foreign Fighters In Afghanistan

General McNeill (file photo) (NATO) July 9, 2007 -- The head of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan says he has seen a rise in the number of foreign militants in the country.

U.S. General Dan McNeill said that these foreigners were a "lot more extreme" than "typical Taliban extremists."

But he said there was no evidence to link the inflow of foreign fighters to elements in Iran and in Iraq.

McNeill also said militants had recently improved tactics and that they were fighting a "little harder."
