33 Militants Reported Killed In Afghan Operations


Afghan police inspect the body of a suspected Taliban militant in Kandahar (file photo) (epa) June 14, 2007 -- Afghan and U.S. officials say Afghan troops have killed 33 Taliban militants, including several commanders, over the past 24 hours in operations in the country's volatile south.


Twenty militants were killed in the Shah Wali Kot district of southern Kandahar Province. In the nearby district of Zhari, six Taliban fighters were killed in combat, including one commander.


In Ghazni Province, seven Taliban were killed and four others detained by police.
