Deadly Bird-Flu Detected In Eastern Afghanistan


A woman tends her flock of chickens near the Afghan capital, Kabul (file photo) (epa) April 25, 2006 -- The United Nations said today that samples taken from birds in the eastern Afghan province of Kapisa have tested positive for the H5N1 strain of the virus, which is deadly to humans.


H5N1 has also been confirmed in the provinces of Kabul, Lowgar, and Nangarhar.


No human infections have been reported in Afghanistan.
